That is NOT what the watch comes with. The illuminator light is a simple led like light (not even a backlight) with a yellowish glow emitted from the left of the lcd panel. Even the casio product webpage shows the watch as having the same glow. Bad. That was my biggest dissapointment with this product. Otherwise it does everything its supposed to pretty well and should last me for a long while. Yeah, its a cheap watch. But with saltwater and abuse, i can buy a new one every year or two. I have been using these casios for years. I never keep one as long as the battery will last. It keeps time just like a Rolex. Save the money, buy Casio. Never had to replace the battery. The screen is as bright as on the day we each bought ours. My son has been deployed twice to Iraq and to Afghanistan, and has seen combat duty. This watch has survived everything. When he goes swimming, he does not even bother to remove his watch. As for myself, I have dropped my watch numerous times, travelled all the over the world with it, and never had any trouble with it. Cons: The metal wristband that my son bought the watch with did not survive past three years, but his watch is still working as accurately as on the day I bought it for him. As for myself, I wish that the sound for the alarm was loud enough to wake me up during my trips like my Timex Ironman. But then my Ironman does not work anymore, but this one still does. I take a working and accurate watch anyday over one that has a loud alarm, but cannot take rough treatment. The combination of generous battery, alarm, world time, and data storage and the recessed night view button were the most attractive points of the G7100-1V, and the lighter colored silver case is certainly less nerdy than an all-black classic. The band adjustment works well. And since I regularly whack my watch against passageways, the g-shock ruggedness is also a plus. Great value, considering you could pay more than twice as much for a designer brand with similar features. I used to not wear a watch thinking I'll just look at my cell phone to see what time it is. The cell phone thing became inconvenient so I got this watch based on price and manufacturer. The functions on this watch are you common functions most people want in a digital watch. The instruction manual for the watch is very small but has many pages. 3 alarms but I only use one. The alarms is louder than other watches I've had, but I wouldn't count on it to wake you up. The light to look at the watch in the dark is usable but only to see the analog part. It does not luminate the digital part. So if you want to see what time your alarm is set for, you'll need another light source. The watch light just doesn't reach that section of the watch face. The front glass/plastic is very durable. I've hit is a number of times on hard surfaces, dropped it on concrete without a scratch. I would recommend...
